Users at the heart of climate services: CLARA goes to ECMWF UEF2020

Climate services are the co-designed and co-developed transformation of raw climate data into bespoke information that can be used to support decision-making. Future risks and threats call for preparedness and science-based decisions. Hence, climate services play a relevant role in building a new risk assessment framework for citizens, public bodies and companies. 

Between June 1-4 2020, ECMWF organises an online three day event (UEF2020) to interact about the use of ECMWF forecasts and to put "users at the heart of operations". This 2-way communication channel between providers of climate information and users, supports a critical understanding on operations in weather and climate services and move progresses forward. 

CLARA will bring the experience of a representative portfolio of co-developed and forecast enabled climate services. Through the experience of two years of work, the development teams will be able to present the technical advancements, but also the process through which this 2-way provider-user interaction happened. 

The services on display will be (in poster format):

- DATACLIME: an interactive multi-user platform for designing your climate solution. The presentation will be delivered by Paola Mercogliano and Giuliana Barbato (CMCC). The service has been developed as one of the horizontal services in CLARA, by the REHMI Division of CMCC. More information about the service can be accessed at the dedicated webpage. The date of the poster session has to be confirmed yet. 

- AQCLI: a climate service for Air QUality in the future Climate. The service has been developed by ARPAE Emilia Romagna region. The poster will be presented by Roberta Amorati during a dedicated poster session on June, the 1st. The service is running and available at the dedicated webpage.

- "CLARA-PWA: a climate service for water assessment" is a poster dedicated to the PWA (Parma river basin water assessment) climate service developed by ARPAE Emilia Romagna. The poster will be presented on June 1st 16:20-17:00 UTC, by Giuseppe Ricciardi and Elisa Comune. More information and the service can be found here.

WRI: A climate service for seasonal and weekly predictions of agricultural irrigation needs is a poster presentation delivered by Vittorio Marletto (ARPAE) and focused on an innovative climate service operational in agriculture. The presentation will be delivered on Tuesday 2nd June 2020 10.20-11.00 UTC. 

- SEAP service: Planning and management of solar photovoltaic plants through a climate service. The presentation will be delivered by Isabel Moreno (UCO). The service has been developed by the University of Cordoba as part of CLARA's renewable energy climate services portfolio. The service can be accessed at the dedicated platform. The service will be presented in the second poster session, Tuesday 2nd June 10.20-11.00 UTC.

- ROAT service: Building a Climate Service as a tool for managing multipurpose reservoirs. The presentation will be delivered by Javier Herrero (UCO). The service is part of the portfolio of services developed by the University of Cordoba in the CLARA project. The service will be presented in the second poster session, Tuesday 2nd June 10.20-11.00 UTC.

- SHYMAT service: A climate service for small hydropower plants operation and management. The presentation will be delivered by Eva Contreras (UCO). The service has been developed by the University of Cordoba as part of CLARA's renewable energy climate services portfolio. The poster will be presented ion Tuesday 2nd June 10.20-11.00 UTC.

- FLOODMAGE will also be presented as a poster i("FloodMage: climate modelling of flood risk") n the first poster session. The service will be presented by Mattia Amadio (CMCC) and it has been developed as disaster risk reduction climate service by RAAS division at CMCC. 

- "IRRICLIME: A Climate Smart Irrigation Tool" will be presented by Stefano BAgli (Gecos) as a poster. IRRICLIME is a water irrigation climate service developed by Gecosistema SrL. The service can be accessed at it dedicated webpage.

- "Smart Climate Hydropower Tool: An artificial intelligence based service for hydropower production seasonal forecast" entails the oral presentation of SCHT, a climate service developed by Gecosistema SrL in the domain of renewable energy. The service is accessible at the dedicated webpage and will be presented by Paolo Mazzoli (Gecos) on June, the 3rd 10.05-10.25am UTC.

- Francesca Larosa (CMCC) will deliver an oral presentation on the work carried on in WP5 of the CLARA project ("Market and Business"). The presentation, named "Market is king: climate services for whom?" will discuss the process to build ready-for-market climate services and will build upon the experience with forecast-enabled CLARA's services. The presentation will take place on June, the 3rd at 12.00-12.20 UTC
