COP24 in Katowice: CLARA's side event proposal

Encouraged by EASME to do so, the CLARA coordinator has submitted a proposal for a side-event of the 2018 UN climate change conference (COP24) in Katowice (03-14/12/2018). The side event has been planned in cooperation with other H2020 projects. The proposal was registered with number 200. Outcomes of the side events’ selection will be known in September 2018.

Harnessing the potentials of climate services to deliver on objectives of the Paris Agreement

Climate services hold great promises for harnessing the values of ever better information on past, present and future climate variability and change, and advising public and private decisions making so as to deliver on the pledges of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. This side event will (i) provide a snapshot overview about the cutting-edge advancements in climate projection and (seasonal to decadal) forecasting;  (ii) explore the fast evolving landscape and variety of climate services in various sectors (e.g. agriculture, energy, disaster risk reduction, water management); and (iii) convey insights from recent market intelligence analysis with respect to the users’ needs, strengths and pitfalls of contemporary climate services, valuation of climate services, as well as future prospects.

This proposal is a joint initiative of several European innovation actions (funded under the Horizon 2020 programme) CLARA, COACCH, EUCP, EU-MACS, PLACARD, CLARITY, MED-GOLD and S2S4E.
