Climate services for the reduction of environmental risks: CLARA at #CLIMRisk19

Side event to the SISC 7th Annual Conference - 25 October 2019, h.10:00-13:00, Sala Belli, Provincia Autonoma di Trento, Italy

In Italy, roughly one in ten people lives in an area undergoing hydro-geological risks; one third of these people reside in high-risk areas, namely those where extreme events occur with a return period between 20 and 50 years (Legambiente). This is partially due to changes in climatic conditions: the adverse consequences of extreme events are amplified by the uncontrolled expansion of urbanized areas and by scarce risk prevention actions. The meeting, thought especially for decision makers and local public and private stakeholders, will focus on the role of climate services in supporting local adaptation processes and risk management. Participants will be engaged in facilitated roundtable sessions that aim to investigate real needs and issues related to natural hazards that local users are facing. The dialogue with users will be crucial to improve the usefulness of the climate services presented, which can combine climatologic, hydrologic and economic analysis in a specific spatial framework.

Agenda:

10:00 – 10:10 Welcome greetings and objectives of climate services for the reduction of risk

Jaroslav Mysiak, Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change Foundation

10:10 – 10:30 The Copernicus programme for climate change and risk reduction
