Adaptation: Jaroslav Mysiak in the expert Board to define European research & innovation priorities

The first meeting of the Mission Board for Adaptation to Climate Change, including Societal Transformation took place on September 5th, 2019. A first step towards the identification of specific missions of the forthcoming EU research and innovation programme, waiting for a discussion on these issues with citizens, stakeholders and experts during the European Research and Innovation Days in Brussels, on September 24-26.

Dr Jaroslav Mysiak, Director of the Risk Assessment and Adaptation Strategies Division (RAAS) at CMCC Foundation, is member of the Mission Board for Adaptation to Climate Change, including Societal Transformationone of the five major missions that will be part of Horizon Europe, the next EU research and innovation programme (2021-2027). The first meeting of the Mission Board, which is chaired by Ms Connie Hedegaard, Former European Commissioner for Climate Action, took place on September 5th, 2019 in Brussels.

Each of the five Mission Boards consists of 15 experts. They will identify the first possible specific missions on cancer, climate change, healthy oceans, climate-neutral cities and healthy soil and food by the end of 2019.

Over 2100 individuals from across the EU and beyond applied to become member of a mission board. The selection process ensured that the boards are composed of creative and highly motivated experts from a wide range of backgrounds, including academics, innovators, civil society, industry, finance and end-users.

A first discussion with citizens, stakeholders and experts from Member States will take place at the European Research and Innovation Days in Brussels from 24 to 26 September. Dr Mysiak will take part in the event, that will be central to finding research and innovation solutions for this great transition by working across polices, setting the direction, spurring innovation and triggering investment.
